Whilst maintaining a freshwater fish aquarium, there are many aspects of importance to be catered for. Maintenance is indeed important but also an extremely rewarding part of this hobby or business. Lighting for freshwater fish aquarium is no exception. As always, you just need a little knowledge in order to use the correct lighting for your particular aquarium. Here, we look at full spectrum bulbs also known as daylight bulbs.
As the name daylight bulb suggests, this lighting imitates that of natural light providing the light spectrum of red, yellow, green and blue. This type of lighting can be used in most aquariums but always double check for your particular set up. They certainly do give off a wonderful and natural appearance to the whole aquarium whilst at the same time giving an excellent source of light for living freshwater plants that you may have in your tank.
If you choose to use this type of lighting, that is, full spectrum bulbs, then there are several brand names to choose from.
We all know the brand name Phillips and they do a daylight bulb called the Phillips Ultralume. Possibly not so well known if you’re new to this hobby is the Coralife Trichromatic range of bulbs and the Duro Vita Lite range also. Don’t worry, these names will become very familiar to you as you pursue your new hobby and you will know through experience which ones to use for your particular tank. In the beginning, always ask advice at your local pet shop for individual and specific set ups.
If you get the right daylight bulbs for your aquarium you will have very happy fish and a superb, natural looking freshwater fish aquarium which will be the envy of many a passer by.
